I’m attending blogger 11 in San Diego. I’m here wearing many “faces”. I’m a blogger, registered dietitan, and speaker. But lately, I think my most important role is an organizer. I’m a passionate advocate for self-care, making sure every day there is time for “me”. We do so much for everyone else that we tend to fall off our own to-do list. Am I right?
Been there, Done That
This is how I lived most of my life. “is everyone happy? What can I do for you? Yes. Yes. Yes. Of course. Yes. Ok!” What I learned is that I did a lot despite my willingness to focus on me. I was young but felt old. Tired. I wanted to change things. So I did one step at a time. That was Over a decade ago. I changed my perceptive and changed my life. A the end of the day, we can’t be our most “successful” in life – however you define it – without meeting our needs first.
#mefirst
enter my passion project. I started blogging and tweeting about important ways of fitting in self-care. I’m all over twitter using the #mefirst hash…and I’m not alone.
I started a blog and am growing a community at www.mefirstblog.com mefirstblog the premise is simple. It’s a daily remind to take care of you. If you want more energy. If you want to feel better. If you want to be healthier. You will get that if you focus on three areas — food, movement, and fun. Get rid of any guilt for being more self-focused. There is nothing selfish about selfness. You are leading by example letting people know that you matter.
Healthy Women
I found a great website and new app at BlogHer11 called healthy women. This is a great place to get expert info, resources, and motivation for medical appointments, check ups and preventative health care you deserve.
Check out both these resources and tell someone else you care about. We can only take others as far as we have gone. The question is: how far are you willing to go?

Hi !
Thank you for the article, it is really interesting like all your blog, I found here many good advice
You can check this site too (http://www.healthywomenonline.co.uk/) about Diets and Healthy Food for Women.
That’s my new mantra. “There is nothing selfish about selfness.” This is something I struggle with, like so many women. So many of us are raised to look after others and put our own needs on the back burner, aren’t we? It isn’t easy to change that thinking, but I’m going to keep that “selfness” saying in mind. We’ll see…
Appreciate your passion to embrace #mefirst. Hope more people get on board
Well, I certainly try to be a healthy woman! You’re right, there’s an important distinction between selfishness and enlightened self-interest.
I love your #mefirst attitude! It is always hard to stick to the healthy answer if you are not putting yourself first!
Health for me shifts throughout my own seasons, and sometimes, days. Sometimes it is about fighting that internal critical voice, about breaking “shoulds” about tasting and sensing rather than rule following. About receiving, and giving to the wider community, and knowing, that it is about sharing. Thanks for your insights!
HI Rebecca, I enjoyed reading about your #mefirst attitude.
I wouldn’t say I am an unhealthy woman, but there have definitely been ways I could improve.
I am a blogger too, and over the course of the last few years have gone through a number of changes. Some good, some bad… but always felt ‘spread too thin’.
I decided to make changes and one of those changes was to look after me first as I am no good the my family if I don’t feel good myself.
I have been snooping through your blog and eying some of your yummy recipes. I’ll spend a bit of time on that as I am currently doing at 90 day weight loss challenge with my significant other. I am basically doing it to support him. He needs to lose weight… I just need to tone.
I am so glad I stumbled across your blog.
Thanks for sharing.
Jayne
If you can’t take care of yourself you can’t take care of anyone else! Thanks for the great post, its great to hear about the #mefirst movement. I’d like to share a post from my site with more self-nurture ideas: Easy Ways ot Self Nurture.
#mefirst is a great idea. I know a lot of women know they need to put themselves first but usually it leaves their mind as they get busy. The hash tag is a great daily reminder for women to take that 30 minutes for themselves each day!
Yep – and think about this, when flying – if the oxygen masks drop from the ceiling, they instruct you to put yours on first before you attend to the kids and help them with theirs. There is a good reason for that! We are no good to anyone when we have not taken care of ourselves first – and have worked ourselves to death. I’m a trainer myself – and see this a lot, of course. Always good to hear a voice like this out there! carriepartna.wordpress.com
