At the end of 2010 I spent some time thinking about the evolution of my blog. I started it in 2007 as a grad school assignment from a digital technology class at Johns Hopkins. When the class was over, I thought “hey, this will be a great place to tell my friends and family – the only peeps reading the blog – about nutrition stuff.” At the time I was also finishing my dietetic internship (not Monica Lewinsky stuff, more like a medical residency). But then I actually started getting READERS! So I thought I should give it a proper name. I called it “Balanced Health and Nutrition”.
While the blog started out having opinions like any good blog should, I slowly started transitioning it into less opinion and more tips and advice. I kind of puttered along and blogged about newsworthy nutrition stuff while tossing in “how to” tips. But I intentionally tried to leave OUT the opinion. I think a main reason is that I thought “I’m a registered dietitian. I have a credential that says I’m an expert. I need to share tips and evidence-based stuff.” Not only that but I got so fed up with “diet this, diet that” I wanted to have a place to say DITCH YOUR DIET! So I changed my header and away I blogged.
Fast forward a couple years later… my counseling business is booming. I’m also speaking and consulting with big companies with names like Bayer, Allstate, and Accenture! I’ve been on Fox News several times (boy I love arguing with Neil Cavuto!) I realized how much I miss sharing my opinions! Around this same time in 2010, I decided to take the “don’t diet” thing to a whole new level and started THE ‘ME MOVEMENT’ www.theMEmovement.com a place for people to blog about self-care and work hard at their own struggle to put themselves first. Yep, I said it. Meet your own needs to be a better spouse, parent, employee etc… To my excitement, it’s really taking off. We have lots of blogs and Twitter chats.
Basically I’m taking a really long time to say: I have two blogs now. I miss sharing my opinions and I want that back. So now, my first blog is going back to the original formula. OPINIONS but with a new name. Maybe it was the recycled air on the airplane or my foggy, sleep-deprived brain. When I made the decision, only one title came to me “Rebecca Thinks…” (oh yeah, who doesn’t love the ellipsis!) So check out the new header and hopefully you will like the content too. You may dislike it if you don’t agree with me
Oh, and if you want the best tips and advice on living a balanced life without dieting, you MUST come see me and my friends at www.theMEmovement.com
