I asked some of my dietitian colleagues, members of the Nutrition Entrepreneurs group of American Dietetic Association, to give some of their top tips that resonate with clients.
Here’s what they said… would LOVE to get responses to these ideas and YOUR TIPS…There’s an expert in all of us! Please post them in the comments section.
- Don’t ever allow yourself to get OVER hungry.
- Eat foods you love–eating shouldn’t be just a means to an end.
- It’s all about balance.
- If the absence of food did not cause the problem, the presence of food will not fix it.
- Eat a little bit of everything and not too much of anything.
- Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love (your child, spouse, sibling, etc.).
- Eat when you are hungry and stop when you are no longer hungry.
- 80% of success is showing up…..for yourself!
- M&M “move and more” Move more, More fruits and vegetables!
- You will never rise above the image you have of yourself in your own mind.
- if you want a different life, than change your response to your current life.
Let’s keep this list growing!!!

Hiya
Excellent list.
I will add: have foods that ‘feel’ good when you’re eating them. Listen to what your body tells you whilst eating. There’s a difference between the sensation of a sugar rush and your whole body resonating ‘wonderful’.
Thanks
Jens
This is great! I am going to share it with my 12-year old son. I particularly love the “Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love” one – I constantly find myself directing my son to be more health-conscious but find that I neglect my own needs.
I know I LOVE that one too… it seems so simple, yet it is powerful… I find that when I have an urge to splurge — as in eat my mini chocolate chip cookies from the box instead of pulling out a serving after dinner — I do ask myself… what would I tell my clients or my overweight family members? It’s always the same… pull out one serving and enjoy every bite with a little skim milk or hot tea!
I’ll add one. Eat smaller meals throughout the day. Skipping meals will lead to larger intakes of food later.
