Get A Blog. Lose Some Weight.

You know how the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. This Washington Post article highlights some weight loss blogs out there.

Here’s an excerpt:

In an era when almost everyone seems to be making what was once thought personal public on blogs, it should come as no surprise that there are a growing number of diet bloggers. No official count exists, but type “weight-loss blogs” into Google, Yahoo or other search engines, and page after page of listings emerge.

Last year I wrote a paper “can blogging help people lose weight?” for my Health Psychology and behavior change classes at Johns Hopkins University. As you can imagine, there is not much scientific evidence that demonstrates efficacy of blogging for weight loss directly. But the idea of the therapy and social support behind blogging holds the most promise. Through blogs, people trying to lose weight can post pictures, weight and measurement stats, food intake, recipe ideas and anything else that shows their progress and pitfalls. I personally think social networking sites around weight loss would bring more bang for the buck because there are lots of people talking about their dieting ups and downs.

Here are a few I had in mind: Calorie King, Revolution Health, Wellsphere.

But hey, blog on bloggers! What are some of your favorite weight loss blogs? If you have one, share your link.

  1. The website ihype.com is about to launch at the end of this month. It’s a very cool idea, especially to bloggers.

  2. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has a great diet blog called The Skinny (and I’m not just saying that because my sister co-writes it!).
