ConAgra To Launch Own “My Pyramid”

If all the different food labels “sensible solution”, “smart spot”, “nutrition-at-a-glance”, “onqi”, and “stars” have you saying “woe is me…” well, I hope you have room for one more…. ConAgra is going to add special food labels for all its products. The new labels will tell you what percentage of grains, fruits, or vegetables is in their food item, based on 2,000 calories a day. Apparently, they think this will “help” consumers where the current pyramid falls short.

“ConAgra Foods’ unique label design will clearly show the amount of each key food group contained in each package, making it easier for consumers to build more healthful diets,” the company said.

Hmmmm….  I’m not so sure. I think this is a strategy to try to sell you more products and highlight the nutrition qualities in their foods. It’s still information based on 2,000 calories a day and it doesn’t take any special diets into consideration. Still general guidance. No improvements here in my book.

Here’s a list of their products: http://www.conagrafoods.com/consumer/brands/index.jsp
