Very interesting and quick read from the NYT Magazine. Essentially, metabolism researchers Britain’s University of Buckingham are developing a leptin-fortified baby formula that “could” permanently alter a baby’s metabolism to prevent them from becoming obese. Of course, this idea comes with lots of criticism which you can read about in the article.
The author’s last point hit home with me. She said “Remaking the age-old survival mechanisms of the human body appears, to some, more feasible than altering the environment humans have created. Oceans of soda, mountains of baked goods and sparkling glaciers of ice cream are now a permanent part of our landscape, and it may be easier to change us than them.”
